Mining Pools Are Taking Out of Band Payments
transaction fees as a percentage of block reward has been higher a lot of different times. Unlike difficulty and hash rate, that's not a chart that just goes steadily upward. You look at end of year 2017, people were playing exorbitant amounts to get their transactions done. But it doesn't seem to be having much of an effect right now. To my mind, if a mining pool is taking out of band payments, then they're cheating anyone who's in their pool because really those fees should be going into the pool and everyone should be benefiting from those fees.
