The Will of the People

All five of these ms are intuitively not just desirable to make a system fair, but essential for it to be rational. Yet they are inconsistent. It seems to follow that a group of people jointly making decisions is necessarily irrational in one way or the other. So there is no such thing as the will of the people. There is no way to regard society as a decision maker with self consistent preferences. This is hardly the conclusion that social choice theory was supposed to report back to the world.
