The Risom System Is Not a Root System
A risom is a stem system that moves through the soil without any clear path or route. The stems are capable of sending off kind of appendage stems that escape from it and go on their own way. Now, its relative flexibility and freedom to move wherever it wants means that it isn't quite bound to any specific plant or tree or anything.
