The Importance of Giving to the Most Vulnerable
In the Old Testament, there are these groups that are singled out widows, orphans and immigrants. These are people who are particularly vulnerable and open to abuse. And therefore, God himself says, I am on the side of the widow, the orphan and the alien; you must make practical provision for them. So it was actually laid down in the in the Old Testament law. Jesus extends that by saying, yes, we call to love not only our neighbor, you know, my fellow Jew, the person who lives close to me but actually he says, who is my neighbor?
