Bush Wanted Direct Instruction in Schools
In 2001, President Bush visited a school in Florida that was using direct instruction. Direct instruction is a very structured program with a big focus on sounding out words and none of the queuing strategies. This kind of instruction was not fashionable in the early 2000s - especially in affluent suburbs where kids don't need this kind of direct instruction.
