Captain William Morgan's Story
Captain William Morgan was forcibly seized and carried away by the local sheriff. He's taken into a stagecoach, which includes some local Masons. When he gets to the courthouse in Kanadwagua, he's examined before Justice Chipman on the charge of stealing a shirt from a man named Kingsley for $2.61. The judge believes this is a trumped up charge for a man to travel multiple days by stagecoach by a local sheriff. But this was a conspiracy to try to get Morgan in debtor's prison, a conspiracy by the local sheriffs and the local Freemasons.
