The Impact of a Ban on Onion Futures Trading
In 1963 Roger Gray wrote a famous article called onions revisited. He documented that what we would call within-season price volatility increased dramatically after onion futures trading was banned. In roughly the decade after onion futures were banned that increase was much more sharp than it was when you had futures trading.
