Sally Kohn: In a new book, Stephen Bloom writes about Jane Elliott's famous experiment. She separated children into groups based on their eye color and the effects were long-lasting. How can we get to a world where that would also apply to skin color, your hair, facial features? Kohn: I think it's really important for us to be honest about what the data shows.

For too long, the term insubordination has evoked negative feelings and mental images. But for ideas to evolve and societies to progress, it’s vital to cultivate rebels who are committed to challenging conventional wisdom and improving on it. Change never comes easily.
