The Invasion of Crimea

I think this could have been diffused if two years ago, America or Ukraine had said, we're going to come up with some system that doesn't involve Ukraine joining NATO. And again, my preference would have been for Ukraine to join the European Union and to have Ukraine do whatever it wants militarily because it's a sovereign country. But for Russia and the United States to agree that we would be neutral towards Ukraine in order to not drag them into any of our shit. They just shouldn't be a part of NATO.
