The History of Bacteria and Gastric Ulcers

By 1888, a ton of progress had been made in identifying different bacterial species and the diseases they caused just in general. But there was still so much to be figured out. And gastric ulcers were a tricky business because like I said, you can get ulceration with many different diseases... So how do you pinpoint exactly which species causes ulcers for sure rather than just these opportunistic infections? Right. Why did it take us another hundred plus years to figure it out? Well, I'll get to that. The link didn't necessarily become forgotten, but it definitely was not as popular as some of the other leading hypotheses.
