Interviews

I've wanted so badly to bring a candidate in and have them just work on my code base with me. The problem is it takes days to get ramped up on the code base. It usually takes more than a day or two to even explain to them how the whole system works. So I tell them at the beginning of the interview, hey, I'm going to give you a problem to solve. And I would like you to see what it's like to work with me. Are they able to communicate rationally about their solutions? are they able to defend their choices?"
