Using Nickel-Based Alloys in a Nuclear Reactor
Your PhD work specifically was about stresses and fractures in metals. But you started out working on plane engines, more specifically looking at the detailed microscopic structure of metals to see what extreme conditions they could withstand. So it's rather different, something else that you don't want to fail on you. And I spent a lot of my time looking at how we optimize microstructures to get the very best performance out of these materials to make them as safe as possible.
