Russian newspaper Pravda claimed any airplane painted with red mercury became an untrackable stealth bomber. Others said it was a component in next-gen missile guidance systems, or even the basis of a hypnotic perfume. Peter Bergen: The thin hope of Red Mercury providing a workaround for the centrifuge problem has been very attractive to numerous governments over the years. But there is another, even more alarming theory for why rogue states and non-state actors might want to get their hands on Red Mercury.
