Imogen White writes about culture for the economist. The film documents the relationship between Jonahill and American actor and his psychiatrist Phil Stutz. Overall, I found it instructive and moving. Yet there was something about it that made me uncomfortable. How can the rules of the psychological profession be adhered to once a camera is turned on? What about confidentiality? And with the cameras there, does the whole ritual not become performative and a little bit fake? These reality type shows are not new. In fact, you could easily write a book length cultural history of psychiatry in film and television from Frasier.
