Harry Houdini and Rose Machenburg

Harry Houdini hired Rose Machenburg in 1924. He died later that year of paratinitis caused by a ruptured appendix. She continued to investigate fraudulent claims of psychic abilities and spiritualism. In the 1930s, she went to visit a medium in Chicago named Herman E. Parker after being privately commissioned to do so.
