White depression expresses itself later in life as an unconscious attachment to the lifeless caregiver. The shadow of the dead mother comes to ultimately fall on the person's loved life, he says. In therapy, it is in the transference where this unconscious repetition is expressed as the sentence, I will never be loved. It is a delicate balancing act to ensure that a process of mourning is fostered rather than a repetition of the trauma.
