The Great War in Prussia
Prussia and britain were not at war, but relations between the two countries were about as bad as they could be short of armed conflict. The prussians had recently signed a deal with napoleon under which they had annexed the province of hanover. British help would not be forthcoming, at least not in the foreseeable future. Napoleon decided on an offensive from the south, from bavaria through the tur ian forest into what is to day eastern germany. He knew there would be large numbers of prussian troops in the area to insure the loyalty of prussia's only ally, the kingdom of saxony.
