Narapati Situ's Dhamma-Yangi Temple
King Naratu of Bagan was killed by a group of eight men dressed as monks. They stabbed him to death, then turned their knives on each other and themselves. Seemingly desperate to assuage his guilt for his heinous actions, he ordered the construction of an ambitious temple. The Taravada Church that replaced them would soon become just as wealthy; it far surpassed its predecessors.
