Is the Consumer Internet a Net Positive?

I worry about what the modern internet does to people and that we haven't designed it in a deliberate enough way. I think you're going to end up with a lot of people who are like King Joffrey. You end up with this spoiled brat because the pain and the ability to forego instant gratification, kind of all the typical marshmallow tests stuff needed to really build character is gone. For better or worse, Twitter is going to emerge just because of the network effect. But even people who I really admire, I've seen them lose themselves entirely.
