The Origins of Knowledge Work Productivity

Peter Drucker coined the term knowledge work and think I believe 1958. He said, knowledge work is too complicated and creative for you to ever come up with an assembly line metaphor. You have to give the worker autonomy to figure out on their own how they're going to actually execute their task. That became part of the DNA of the knowledge sector in general. Even well before the modern learned large language model breakthroughs in AI, it's been the story of the 21st century that if you can quickly learn and master new technical systems, it's a huge advantage.
