The Challenges of Comparative and International Education
I think that there is a challenge for us. People will start to raise these issues, but at the moment it reflects the fact that it's easy to be critical of human rights and violations when your own state is of the same opinion. And I've done that myself in my own university and felt quite isolated. Do we actually have the protections in our institutions to enable us to talk about these kinds of issues? Certainly, it's a touch and go in the UK given the so-called free speech. But let's just open up that discussion and try to understand issues around privilege, issues around power and inequality that emanate from that.
