The Role of Orders in the Church

There are three degrees of Holy Orders: episcopate, presbiturate and deaconate. Those who receive Holy Orders are consecrated in Christ's name to feed the church by the word and grace of God. For spouses, spouses are consecrated for the duties and dignity of their state by a special sacrament of matrimony. "This ordination is passing on again, this sacred power," says Pope Francis.
