The genre will come to be seen by a lot of people as a cynical cash grab genre, which is really especially heartbreaking considering how it started. Big record labels were all convinced from day one that this was a fad. The exclusivity of Studio 54 was a huge thing that they wanted to project and promote. It's just like for the rest of the country who's reading about this, there's all these clubs in Midtown Manhattan that basically become just like celebrity VIP spaces.
