CNN's John Defterios says it is important to differentiate between political victory and military victory. He argues that the US defeated Isis as a pure military campaign which was successful by any reasonable standard of what you're trying to accomplish. But he adds: "From a purely military perspective, it succeeded Afghanistan has to be counted as a strategic failure"
