The Balkanization of Democracy
I find that the Balkanization that social media and the digital revolution creates really does let people live in such wildly divergent worlds that they can't even talk to each other. I think some of us thought and sometimes personally experienced having good faith arguments where you change your mind on social media. That is, obviously, turns out that is not how social media works. We're now in this moment when people are moving off of those platforms toward more closed spaces like podcasts or one-to-one relationships with publishers or individuals they trust. Maybe that's a world in which paradoxically there's a little more space for good faith disagreement.
