We pay more attention to who we are and how we view ourselves when we know that other people are perceiving us in some way. Sense of self is kind of, you know, the sense of self comes from within and true authenticity comes purely from within. The seeds had been laid over the past 200 years that allowed this like rapid shift of the past 20 years to happen.
