Can Schools Really Do It?

Emily Bird visits Bariford Primary in Lancashire, where they have introduced more veggie options. Sustainability is a central part of the curriculum with lessons focused around big questions like can we survive without bees? What does the rainforest teach us? And did ancient people treat the planet more kindly than we do? Head teacher Rachel Tomlinson says it was not a challenge to get the school to cut down its meat consumption. But she admits that some meals could be easily tweaked to become vegetarian or plant-based.
