The Response to Fear Becomes a Negative Feedback Loop
In everyday life, one of the things we're most afraid of losing is status. So there's that kind of feedback loop on one side, and that can at the international level. Oh, china is the enemy. They want us, they wish us ill. A god, you know, i'm suddenly attuned to evidence that that's the case. The more evidence i see, the more scared i am, and the more evidence i'm going to see. But there's also the bilateral feedback loop, which is that we get fearful and actually do things that we think of as assuaging our fear. And a non-biological but very real form of this could be
