The Adventures of Odysseus, the Taming of the Shrude

Odysseus and Yakov are the paradigmatic clever men. Both of them need to have that cleverness tamed. Caliban is a brute with intelligence, but he doesn't have the ability to fully self-realize. So I guess there's kind of an ambivalence to these characters as you see them as almost allegories for the development of civilization.
