The Importance of Indigenous Peoples in Health Care

15% of clinical encounters are with a patient who doesn't speak english. The person who translates in that setting is the person a most likely to speak both english and the native language. And so then we end up with children, i'm translating things that they should never be translating around the illness of their parent or grandparent. So ou kno, we we there is this, again,  ability to have language concord and provide ers greatly increases when you train providers from an indigenous community.
