The Problem With New Ideas
The idea that crisis justifies giving the state greater power is one of the bedrock doctrinal points of a lot of libertarian-oriented political science. exploiting crisis is the essence of whether you want fascism, but it's also the essence of every form of authoritarianism. If you can make something a crisis that allows you to bend or break the rules or suspend the rules, sometimes that's warranted.
