Nobody knows exactly what Putin is thinking here. It's an enigma wrapped in riddle and it, it, I heard someone saying yesterday, Putin never lived in the West. He has no idea how we think. We have no idea how he thinks. But that's why it's so dangerous to have troops lined up on either side of the border. Because you don't know what's going to happen in a situation like that. An accident could lead to a major world. You would want the idea of being able to be in NATO just to have it there to protect you from some, to some extent. So why should we just assume?
