The Oldest Evidence of Wildfire

The oldest evidence of wildfire was found 430 million years ago. The charred remnants were trapped in some truly ancient mudstone from an unexceptional landscape in wales. During the silurian vegetation was very different to what it is to day. There were no woody plants at this time. And proto texites grew anything up to eight metrs in height and about a metre in diameter. But there was one giant that dwarfed the landscape, called proto taxites.
