The Crimean War - Nicholas Said, Got to Turkey
Nicholas Said was sold to the Turkish Foreign Minister who was involved in intense negotiations with England and France. Russia had a habit of purchasing bright young slaves and bringing them to St. Petersburg or Moscow, setting them free and then hiring them out as well paid workers for the households of the elite. The most famous one was probably Abram Petrov-Gani Ball, who eventually became the number three general of the Russian army.
