The Anglo-French Devise

Voltaire used the british philosophers both in order to to am in a sort of disinterested way. But also, crucially, to attack the french establishment. The sorts of superstitions and mystifications that mury was talking about earlier are things that the philosophes set themselves against. So it's useful for them to be able to set up the english as different, or the bittish different, in order to get at the french religious establishment.
