Buddha Goes to Sarnath: How Cities and Civilisations are Born
Echoes Of India: A History Podcast

The Harapans and the Inda Civilization
Unlike mesopotamia and egypt, the inda civilization had no massive palaces or monuments to kings and gods. The richest dead people we know of were buried with a grand total of 70 clay pots. This apparently galitarian well planned and not very religious phase of harapian society emerged after some older haropan cities had been burned to ashes and then built over. So what on earth happened here? What does it tell us about civilization and humanity? Does it mean that inequality and blind worship of power aren't inevitable, even in very popular societies with complex economies? It mean that revolutions can sometimes succeed? We can't be sure, but the possibilities are extremely exciting.
