Many of the early innovators of neural networks, this was for them part of a process of trying to understand how the human brain functions. Jeff Hinton had one foot in psychology and another foot in computer science. Frank Rosenblatt, officially he was a psychologist, but he's working with computers as well. And when it shows is that, you know, these are two new fields which are still developing.
