The Importance of Economic Equality in Morocco
The French are willing to have this sort of open door, economic equality, but they want the two main railway lines that are being built in their own hands. They're actually fearful of German influence and competition. The key moment is in April of 1911 when Fez is besieged by hostile tribes. Spain reacted most aggressively, they started pouring troops into the rift and making sweeping demands.
