The Change in India's Attitudes After the Battle With the Chinese
I think India's attitudes changed really fundamentally after the clash with the Chinese and the Himalayas, the killing of something like 20 years ago. The legacy ideology of non-alignment strategic autonomy was always a powerful appeal. But I think the rise of China and China's assertiveness has cured us of this belief that somehow we Asian brothers will come together to counter the West. So I think pretty India is quite clear when it makes the formulation that while we are interested in a multipolar world, a multipolar Asia is equally important.
