Quantum Computing
Quantum computing is an area that has been waiting in the wings for a while. There was a surge in funding over the last two or three years in quantum computing start ups. The other area of futuristic technology i think as fascinating is fusion, the ability to harness power from smushing together lighter atoms. I don't think we will naturally see operating fusion reactors connecting to the grid. But i think what we will see will be increased funding and larger scale prototypes.
