Cherry Grove on Fire Island

Cherry Grove on Fire Island was a hot spot for gay men in the late 60s and early 70s. People would walk up into the dunes and cross over to the meat rack where they'd have sex. The practice began in the late 1930s and only ended in 1968 after 17 men successfully fought the charges in court with the help of the Mattachine Society. One long time grow visitor struggles to find the words to describe the epicness of the meat rack in the mid-70s.
