The main thing has to do with technology as opposed to theoretical ideas. We've got plenty of theoretical hypotheses all about how the brain might be working and so on. But we actually don't have any good technology for measuring what's going on inside the brain. What we're facing is a giant leap in understanding that we know is coming, but we just don't have the trick cracked yet.

David Eagleman (@davideagleman) is a neuroscientist, New York Times bestselling author, TED speaker, and Guggenheim Fellow.
