What's Next for Nonprofits?
Before the 60s, there was a much clearer understanding of what foundations and nonprofits were doing. The Rockefeller Foundation couldn't actually get a charter from Congress because the Rockefeller name was so odious. Out of that emerged legislation and also just sort of like self-imposed accountability practices which made nonprofits much more professionalized and technocratic.
