A lot of advertising to me seems designed to make me feel like kind of like, you know, FOMO, I need this. And it's not just items that I need to buy; now it's everything. It's like part of the platform is to just make you feel less than. There's a sort of an arms race where if everybody's trying to manipulate you, everybody feels that they're blackmailed into paying an existential tax to Facebook.
