How to Reduce Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive dissonance can often have a very powerful influence over our behaviors and actions. It's particularly evident in situations where individuals behave your conflicts with beliefs that are integral to their self-identity. A consonant thought is basically the thoughts and beliefs that you hang your hat on. For example, consider a situation when a person places a value on being environmentally responsible but later discovers they don't get great gas mileage.
