The End of the British Empire
This is recognized as the kind of the end of the British Empire really. The Britons never anything but a junior partner to US imperialism after this. So here the US hung them out to dry. And this is known as a turning point in history. Perhaps some of these recent things like the US misadventures in Ukraine will ultimately come to be seen as being similar in the US case in the decline of the US Empire.
