The Nonprofit Industrial Complex
The nonprofit sector has been tax exempt since 1913 when Congress approved the Revenue Act. The NRA and now are classified as 501c4s. Nonprofits often provide services, advocate for reform, help build communities, or provide space for innovation. Since they rely on donations, foundation support, or people willing to work for often lower pay, some nonprofits have run into issues trying to accomplish their goals.
