Violet paget started using the pseudonym burnon lee in 18 75. It was becoming a lot more common for women to publish their work under their own names. The pen name she adopted was vernon because it started with a v like violet, and lee from her half brother's surname. Some people say vernon lee througout one of the biographies that i read, switched back and forth between whether they were talking about her formal work or her social life.
