The Importance of Free Speech in the Humanities

Bertrand Russell's essay in praise of idleness really gave me the material I wanted. John Dewey's defense of him produced just exactly what I was looking forreally with the contemporary turned to the argument at the end then. Laura Kipness, who's book unwanted advances about the operation of Title IX in America and the increasingly difficult situation universities have found themselves in as they try to negotiate claims of unwanted sexual advances or worse on American campuses. And I'm interested in how she tries to use that as her own test case for freedom of speech and freedom of intellectual inquiry in the university.
