This man was famous for taking travellers, back packers and other visitors to dinner. He would then hit them with fines or take their stuff if they didn't follow his rules. To avoid him the plan was to ask to be let out early before arriving within the town's limits. And in that way, you would hope that this fiendish man would never find you.
